Camping FAQs

When do you open?

We open for camping in May each year and close mid - late September dependant on the weather. Booking for the season becomes available late October early November.

Describe your site

A small quiet family run site offering good old fashioned camping in a peaceful part of the Washburn Valley. Fantastic modern facilities with easy access to Harrogate, Skipton and the dales. Ideal for people looking to escape their busy lives. We operate a quiet time from 10pm to 8am, so we are not the site for those wishing to play music and get drunk/be loud all night. We welcome respectful campers looking to enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

Which units do you accept on your campsite?

We accepts tents (including trailer tents, roof tents and bell tents) and small short wheel base camper vans (like a VW T5).

We can accept motorhomes or caravans, but only on the electric pitches, if they fit the size requirement.

Do you have electric hook ups?

Not on the main campsite. The main area is a simple basic campsite with no electric.

We have added 5 seperate electric pitches which are completely level, in their own little area. These pitches can accomodate any unit that fits 8m/7m. They are also very convenient for the facilties. Please see the tab for more details.

What time is check-in / check-out?

Check in for camping is from 2pm, latest check in 8.30pm. Check out is by 11.30am. We need guests to be checked out on time, so we can complete maintenance jobs on the site. Please do not just pack up and leave your car to go for a walk without asking first.

What is the cut off time for bookings?

We stop taking bookings at 4pm on the day via the website. The only way to confirm a booking is by booking on the website. We are a small family run site and busy working farm, sometimes we cannot get back to messages until the following day. All bookings must be onsite no later than 8pm, regardless of time of booking.

What is the landscape like?

The electric pitches are completely flat. The main non-electric field does slope, which is in the nature of the surrounding Yorkshire landscape. We would recommend bringing leveling blocks for campervans. If you want a flat pitch book an EHU pitch, there is no obligation to use the electric.

Do you have firepits?

We do not allow campers to bring there own firepits, to help us to control and meet clean air regulations. You can hire a fire pit and buy wood from us should you wish to throughout your stay. We may during hot weather ban fires on site for safety reasons. We will update the website with any fire bans. Sometimes we may make the decision at the time. Safety will always be put first.

When are firepits and wood available?

Firepits are done between 6 and 7pm - subject to weather and availability. Please make sure you are on your pitch at this time if you wish to hire one as it may not be possible after this time. If it is a quieter time we will ask on check in (midweek out of holidays).

Can I use a BBQ?

Yes, as long as it is fully raised from the ground. We may during hot weather ban fires on site for safety reasons. We will update the website with any fire bans.

Can I pitch with my friends?

We do not allocate pitches, it is on a first come first serve basis. You are welcome to pitch together if the space is available.

Can I park my car on my pitch?

Yes you can, providing the ground conditions allow. Extra cars may have to park off the camping area if we are booked up. If the weather is extremely poor we will allow guests to drop off equipment and then ask them to park off the field.

We cannot accomodate extra cars on the electric pitches. They will have to be parked away from the camping area.

Why is there a charge for extra cars?

We want to encourage guests to only bring one car. Extra cars take up free space on the site that we want to keep for camping and open space. We also want to try do our bit for the environment, by keeping vehicles onsite to a minimum.

Can I charge my EV on site?

Yes. We have an EV charging point in the main farm yard. This is a chargable extra. It is a slow charger 7kWh. There are rapid chargers available in town. The Queens Head at Kettlesing also offers car charging.

How much space is there?

Plenty! We never overbook our site and there is always plenty of room. We adjoin fantastic off road walks with direct access.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs on a lead are welcome on the campsite. At the moment we do not have any fixed accomodation that is dog friendly. We limit dogs to 2 per booking. Owners are expected to clean up after their dog.

If your are exhibiting your pooches at a local show and wish to stay and have more than 2 dogs please get in touch.

Do you accept groups?

We accept D of E and other groups (whole site hire), please email us for availability.

We accept small groups looking for a peaceful getaway. Please email us before booking or you may be turned away if contact has not been made beforehand. We will happily accept repeat bookings from family groups/school groups/clubs who have stayed before with prior contact. We are firm on group bookings to prevent both you and us from being dissapointed and to maintain our reputation as a quiet and peaceful site.

Do you have WiFi?

We do have free to use basic WiFi on site. This is available around the facilities and main camping area. Please note on the campsite this can be affected by poor weather as we are on a wireless internet.

Where is the nearest shop?

There are 2 small local farm shops. Fewston Farm Shop and Toft Gate Barn (around 2-3 miles away). There is a newly opened large farm shop at Skipton, Robertshaws. Bringing all supplies with you is the best option, as the nearest bigger shops are 9 miles away. There are no shops within a reasonable walking distance.

What facilities do you have for campers?

We have a new modern shower/toilet block with fully enclosed heated shower and toilet rooms. Also 2 new toilet blocks. We have a washing up shed, with free to use fridges and a freezer for ice packs. An elsan waste point is available (only green eco fluid to be used).

Can my friends come and meet us onsite?

We ask if you can meet friends off site. There are plenty of places in the local area ideal for a meet up. We want to have only booked guests on-site for health and safety reasons.

Can I turn up and pay on the day?

You can view our availability and book via our website. You are welcome to turn up, please ring the doorbell opposite the stables for attention. You can see our availablity on the booking calendar which is worth checking before travelling to avoid dissapointment (Red is booked, Green is available). Please note that if you do not have a prebooked pitch via the website, availability cannot be guaranteed.

What if the weather is bad?

Unfortunately the British climate is variable. Unless the weather is extreme or the site is unusable, then we are open and you will be expected to take your booking. We recommend taking out a UK travel insurance to cover your trips. No refunds or date moves will be offered just because rain is forecast.

I want to use my Freedom Camping club free night voucher, how do I do this?

Before booking you need to email us with the dates you wish to book. We will then tell you what to do from there. We cannot add this on after booking by means of refund - you can however extend an already booked stay if the availability is there. The voucher can only be used as a 3 for 2, and it does exclude bank holidays.

Glamping FAQs

Can campers go in the glamping area?

No. The glamping is completely seperate from the campsite and is a private area reserved only for glamping guests only.

Can people camp near the shepherds huts?

No. We do not allow tents or camping around the shepherds huts. It is an area exclusively for glamping guests only. It may not be ideal if you wish to camp and glamp together as campers are under no circumstances allowed in the glamping area.

Do you accept children or babies in your shepherds huts?

No. Our shepherds huts are adult only accomodation, designed with that in mind.

Do you accept dogs in your shepherds huts?

No. Our shepherds huts are pet free. We are ideal for allergy sufferers being completely pet free.

How many people can sleep in your shepherds huts?

The huts have sleeping for 2 in one bed. We cannot sleep more than 2 people in each hut.

When are your shepherds huts open?

Please check out the availability calendar on the booking page to see our availability. Red is booked/closed. Green is available/open. Certain dates do carry no check/no check out (Saturdays and certain other key dates such as bank holidays and the festive period).

Do you do early check in / late check out in your shepherds huts?

Generally no in Swaledale or Herdwick. Wensleydale has an 11am check out time. We need this time to turn both the shepherds hut and hot tub. It gives us time to fix anything, should anything get broken (once we had to refit a hob that got damaged in the day!). This means absolutely no disruption to your stay and squeaky clean well maintained huts for you to enjoy. If we get your things ready before 3pm, we will message the number on the booking to give you the oppurtunity to arrive early should you wish to.

Do the shepherds huts have Wifi?

Yes. Our shepherds huts all have Wifi. It is fairly reliable and is usually only bad in poor weather due to being a wireless connection.

Can I park next to my accomodation?

Yes. Private parking for 1 vehicle is provided with each hut. Extra cars will have to park off the field.

What is provided with a glamping booking?

We provide all bedding and towels. The huts are equipped with an en-suite shower/toilet, full heating, 2 ring induction hob, microwave, mini fridge/freezer, crockery, pots and pans, washing up facilties (washing up liquid etc), miniature toiletries (1 set per stay), toilet rolls (enough for your stay), indoor and outdoor seating, small welcome box (tea, coffee, biscuits etc). There is a bbq firepit ouside - wood is available to buy from us for use on this. The jacuzzi hot tubs are a booking extra, please tick the box if you wish to book (extra charge). You can add it on, but we need 24 hours notice ideally so it can be ready for you.

General FAQS

Can I swim/paddle on the reservoir?

No. This is a unique body of water with it being a reservoir therefore not suitable for aquatic activities.

Can I fish in the reservoir?

The reservoir is privately owned by a water company so you would need to enquire with them.

What is the latest check in time?

We like all guests to be checked in by 8.00pm latest. We are a small family run business and we are also running a working farm, so need some time on an evening. Please consider this when booking, as we do not accept late arrivals as it is not fair on guests already onsite, or on us.

Can you store belongings before a check in or after check out?

We don't have any storage facilties for bags or tents, so these will need to be brought with you when you check in and taken when you depart.

Do you have plugs for phone charging/device charging on the campsite?

No, the only electric on the camping is with the electric pitches. Please prepare appropriately for the pitch you've booked. It is easy to charge in your car whilst out for the day. We are looking into charging facilities for the future.

I've lost something, do you store lost property?

We always do our best to reunite people with things they've left behind. If we find something we will contact you to ask if you'd like it returned. Postage for items is payable prior to returning lost proerty via courier services. If things go unclaimed after 14 days they will be disposed of appropriately. Please drop us an email if you think you've left something behind and we will see if we have it.

Cancellation and Booking FAQS

I've booked through a partner agency - I've got a problem with my booking can I contact you directly?

If you have booked via a platform you will need to message us through them or contact the booking platform. We have no control over monies through partner agencies until after your stay date. Your booking will be bound by whatever terms are set by these platforms, which usually allows for little flexibility. Please check the cancellation policy on the platform.

I've booked with you through your website and need help with my booking, what do I do?

Email us breaksfoldfarm@gmail.com or leave us a short telephone message on 01943 880277 and we will get back to you and resolve it as quickly as possible. Email is often the quickest way to get a response.

If I cancel will I get my money back?

It is well worth taking UK travel insurance cover for your trips.

We will where possible do our best to rebook your accomodation/camping pitch or if possible offer a change of date. There is a booking charge for us refilling your booking and date changes will be specified dates (not weekends/bank holidays or key peak dates). We are a small business. Cancellations and amendments cost us a great deal each year, which we cannot keep doing. If you are giving us very little notice there will be no refund or date change offered (within 7 days for fixed accomodation and within 48 hours for camping) - unless the circumstances are exceptional. Please read our terms and conditions before booking which outlines our cancellation policy. We have been as fair as we can to you as a customer and to us. Refunds are available (less card fees) that meet our criteria available in the Ts and Cs.
